"I'm having an old friend for dinner."
Join
Academy Award-winning screenwriter Ted
Tally for A Conversation
in Film at the Harry Ransom Center this
Sunday, March 25th, at 4pm. The discussion
will cover the art of crafting suspense, writing
for different mediums, the research and writing process, and effectively
adapting novels to
the screen. Acclaimed playwright and Oscar-winning writer Ted Tally
has made a career of adapting for the screen the works of bestelling authors
Cormac McCarthy, Thomas Harris, Rosellen Brown, and George Dawes
Green.
After the discussion, Tally will present a special retrospective screening of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS on 35mm with a post-screening Q&A in the Spirit Theater of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum at 7:30pm.
THE SILENCE OF
THE LAMBS was included on the most recent list of "culturally, historically, or
aesthetically significant" films to be added to the Library of Congress’s
National Film Registry, ensuring that the film will be preserved and recognized
for decades to come. Don’t miss your chance to see exactly what is being
preserved, as we host this rare, special screening of the film in glorious
35mm.
The
conversation and Q&A will be moderated by screenwriter Álvaro Rodríguez
(MACHETE, SHORTS, ALLIED FORCES).
Ted Tally began his career in Off-Broadway and regional theatre. His plays include Terra Nova, Hooters, Coming Attractions, Little Footsteps, and Silver Linings. Among his screenplays are THE FATHER CLEMENTS STORY, RED DRAGON, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES, BEFORE AND AFTER, THE JUROR, WHITE PALACE, and, of course, THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Other credits include associate producer on Mission to Mars and story consultant on the animated movies SHREK 2, MADAGASCAR, and SHREK 3 (2007). Tally won an Academy Award, the WGA Award, and the Saturn Award for Best Screenplay in 1992 for THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, adapted from the novel by Thomas Harris.
