==========================

Former lawyer and Baylor University alum, John Lee Hancock, will lead a discussion on the importance of authenticity in storytelling.

Good filmmaking is more than hitting the big plot points with explosive action and special effects. To engage and keep an audience, the filmmaker needs to know the core of the dramatic conflict. How best to apply life experiences to your film? How much research does a screenwriter need to conduct prior to crafting a screenplay? Whether writing about sports, Jehovah's Witnesses, the colorful and mercurial nature of New Orleans, a serial killer, or a small town family man struggling to accept unrealized dreams, writer/director John Lee Hancock's stories ring true. We don't question the characters or their dialogue; his courtrooms and playing fields are authentic.

Created in 2007 and sponsored by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences®, Conversations in Film is a year-round series of film seminars that provide the public with the unique experience to interact with local and visiting filmmakers.
